Module 6 of 7 · 45–60 minutes, plus one no-screen connection block

Module 6 · Guard Joy and Friendship

What deliberate attention does our friendship and intimacy need?

Opening

Why this matters now

Marital intimacy is larger than sex. It includes friendship, safety, affection, delight, knowledge, privacy, and embodied closeness. Sexual intimacy matters, but it cannot be isolated from the rest of married life.

Within the one-flesh covenant, sexual self-giving is mutual and never coerced. First Corinthians 7:3–5 speaks of mutual duty and temporary abstinence by shared agreement — not permission to force, threaten, punish, or demand what harms.

This week, invite one no-screen connection block of at least thirty minutes. Offer two realistic options, make refusal safe, and state clearly that there is no expectation of sex or forced disclosure.

Your tasks

Work through these in order. Each task has an observable finish line.

This week's field guide The Spark and the Flame
Illustrated field guide titled The Spark and the Flame: A Field Guide to Sexual Intimacy in Marriage, using a mower spark plug as its central image, with five secrets, a reality-check section on the young-children season, a red panel of warning signs including pornography and emotional adultery, and a three-step action checklist.

Friendship, attention, and desire over a long marriage.

Task 1

Protect unclaimed attention

Friendship requires presence, not performance.

Actions

  1. Schedule one no-screen connection block of at least thirty minutes.
  2. Offer two realistic options: walk, coffee, shared music, porch conversation, or quiet affection.
  3. State plainly that there is no expectation of sex or forced disclosure.
  4. Put devices away and protect the time you agreed on.

Task 2

Honor consent within covenant

Actions

  1. Accept that either spouse may decline any sexual or affectionate activity at any time.
  2. Offer kind words, practical partnership, and nonsexual touch as goods in themselves — not deposits toward access.
  3. Never criticize or compare your wife's body. Protect her privacy.
  4. After she states a boundary, keep ordinary warmth intact. Sulking and coldness punish a "no" without speaking a threat.

Task 3

Address structural pressure

Actions

  1. Ask about rest, pain, medication, privacy, unresolved hurt, body image, and caregiving load.
  2. Share household and caregiving responsibility as justice and love, not seduction strategy.
  3. Treat different desire patterns as shared information — not moral rank.
  4. Seek medical evaluation for pain; seek trauma-informed care where trauma is present.

Task 4

Guard fidelity and friendship

Actions

  1. Notice when secrecy, fantasy, messaging, pornography, or outside emotional disclosure draws energy from covenant truthfulness.
  2. Remember what makes your wife laugh, what drains her, and what she hopes for beyond household function.
  3. Speak about intimacy away from the bedroom and outside the immediate sting of rejection.
  4. Ask one question at a time and make opting out ordinary.

Private self-check

Reflect alone, then check each one off. Do not use these to diagnose or score your wife.
